Inflorescence.city (2014 & 2016);

Inflorescence.city is two volumes of explorations of the human and nonhuman aspects of cities by Withering Systems (Everest Pipkin and Loren Schmidt). A number of generative art projects, sketches, and experiments are drawn into one interactive fabric of palimsest-as-website.

The first iteration (Inflorescence.city Volume 1, 2014) takes the form of generative textual detritus; each refresh builds something like a town newspaper anew. Note: may load VERY SLOWLY in some browsers.

The second iteration (Inflorescence.city Volume 2, 2016) takes place in a navigable world map. The world stretches endlessly in every direction; no two parts of it alike. As one explores, a cluster of areas of interest illustrate themselves in panels around the world map; some of these manifest as poems, others as visual pieces or animation. Because the landscape is entirely procedurally generated, it is truly endless. However, it is also always the same from visit to visit or person to person. Because the place-keys that determine one's location are visible, one may share a particularly beautiful moth or an interesting poem with a friend merely by copying the key.
